If you are interested in history, then you can plan to visit this beautiful city. Let us know which places you can visit in this very beautiful tourist destination of Europe.
1. Colosseum
The oval shaped Colosseum could accommodate 50000 spectators which was a big deal for any building at that time. You will be surprised to know that bloody battles between warriors were held in this stadium just for entertainment. Here the warriors had to fight with animals as well. It is estimated that more than 10 lakh people and 5 lakh animals were killed at this place. Apart from this, plays related to many mythological stories were also organized here. Grand events were organized here twice a year which the Roman people liked very much.
2. St. Peter's Square
A small independent country 'Vatican City' is also located within Rome. Here, St. Peter's Square is such an iconic place, which has been famous for many important events. Beautiful statues can be seen in this building located in the Vatican State. The statue of Nero in the center looks grand. St. Peter's Basilica is located at the end of the square.
3. St. Peter's Basilica
It is one of the most famous and magnificent religious buildings in the world. It has been a symbol of power and strength. When Catholicism was dominant, it used to be very powerful. The main entrance of this building located at the end of St. Peter's Square is very beautiful. The beauty of its architecture is worth seeing. Michelangelo and Bernini are credited with building it. Do not forget to go to the top of this building and see the top view of St. Peter's Square.
4. Pantheon
5. Trevi Fountain
6. Piazza del Campidoglio
7. The Church of Bones
The real name of this church is a little hard to pronounce - Chiesa di Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini or Church of Our Lady of the Conception of the Capuchins. The 17th century church (made famous by Fellini's 1960 film La Dolce Vita) is located on Via Veneto, close to Piazza Barberini and the Trevi Fountain. While the interior of the church is very impressive, the Capuchin crypt is also very interesting. The bones of about 4,000 Capuchin monks are kept here and have been turned into large artworks. Each of the five crypts has a different skeletal artwork - it actually looks quite spooky!
